Lizzy is Strategic Head of Climate Processes & Projections at the Met Office Hadley Centre and Professor of Climate Science at Bristol University in the UK. She has 20 years’ experience working at the Met Office on regional climate modelling, where she currently leads a team of 40 scientists, experts and science managers on understanding climate processes and improving climate projections. She pioneered the field of km-scale climate modelling, including the first km-scale climate simulations over the UK, Europe and Africa. She is co-lead of the REPRESA project on improving resilience to tropical cyclones over Southern Africa. This is a multi-disciplinary project, involving partners from across southern Africa, which aims to pull-through advances in km-scale climate modelling, improve early warning systems, address barriers to early warning system uptake, and inform adaptation options. She is also the lead on the FUTURE-FLOOD project, which will provide new flood estimates across the UK. Recently she has taken on the role of senior supplier on AI work for climate at the UK Met Office.
