The Nettle Dress (Dylan Howitt, 2023) After the death of his beloved wife, textile artist Allan Brown begins a seven-year endeavour to weave a hand-spun dress from stinging nettles foraged in the woods surrounding his home. Screening includes Q&A with textile artist Allan Brown and chance to view the dress featured in the film.
Thursday 3rd July
Screening of GSI documentary on Heatwaves in Chile [please check with GSI for title and details of the film]; followed by screening of film and soundscape work related to novelist, sound artist and academic Dr Ellen Wiles’ Riverlandia project, and screening of a short film Rock Pool (Dan McKay, 2024) that explores ‘slow’ eco-cinema as a means of promoting good mental health in the face of climate anxiety. Screenings will be followed by a panel discussion/Q&A with the filmmakers/academics involved in the respective projects.
