Dr Supriya Akerkar is an Associate Professor with the Centre for Development and Emergency Practice (CENDEP), Oxford Brookes University, UK, and specializes in inclusive and intersectional disaster/climate risk reduction, humanitarianism and development. Her work focuses on social justice, prioritizing the rights of women, sexual minorities and marginalised groups particularly in the Global South. Her research expertise includes intersectionality of gender, aging, disability, ethnicity, minorities in disaster/climate crisis. Her current research enquires into experiences of women and sexual minorities during disaster/climate related displacement and decolonizing of development and humanitarian practice. She has extensive experiences of working with community organisations, NGOs, and civil society on social equity and building inclusive and transformative social change practices.
